Olimerca.- The Regulatory Council of the Manzanilla and Gordal Olives PGI of Seville has held a plenary session in which important agreements have been announced that come to strengthen and unite the Sevillian table olive sector.

During the celebration of said plenary session, the registrations for two new dressing industries, such as Agromairena and Guadalquivir Olives, and three new marketing bottling companies, Agromairena, Guadalquivir Olives, and Ángel Camacho Food, have been approved, with which they reach the figure of more than 3,500 olive groves, 18 processing industries, 16 purchasing centers and 11 registered packaging companies.

Another of the points to highlight within the agreements approved by the Regulatory Council, have been the new authorizations, to two of the already registered bottling companies, which will be able to start marketing their olives protected with the labels of Protected Geographical Indications, such as Manzanilla Olive SCA and Escamilla SL These entities will be the next to pack and market olives with the aforementioned PGIs with the authorized brands of Manzanilla Olive and Escamilla.

There are now three bottling companies that begin the marketing and distribution journey with PGI Aceituna Manzanilla and Gordal de Sevilla

With these, there are now three bottling companies that are beginning the marketing and distribution journey, and from the Regulatory Council "we are very proud to be able to help restore that prestige that our Manzanillas and Gordales de Sevilla always had", they affirm.

Likewise, and unanimously, an institutional declaration of the Plenary of the Regulatory Council has been approved in support of the declarations of the Platform Against Tariffs, to which it has requested its accession, in order to demand that the European Commission take compensatory measures for our country, as one of the most affected by tariffs and to urge the Spanish Executive to demand from the aeronautical sector, as has been done in other countries, its alignment with what is required by the WTO regarding the aid received and to promote the bilateral relationship with the US.

The large distribution bets on Sevillian olives with Protected Geographical Indication

At this event, the president of the Regulatory Council Juan Luis Oropesa de Cáceres, the manager of the Sevillian table olive company, Olivaida SL, Francisco Javier Rodríguez Rodríguez, and the institutional manager of Carrefour, ManuelTorreglosa, made the attendees known and consumers, the characteristics and added values of the Manzanilla and Gordal Sevillian olives that carry these Distinct Quality (PGI) marks and the guarantee of origin they offer.

In this sense, the first bottling company to position its range of products covered by the PGI Aceituna Manzanilla de Sevilla, has been the company Aljarafeña, Olivaida SL with its brand La Sabrosita, a small family business located in Albaida del Aljarafe, which from the beginning of the project and he invested all his efforts in a differentiation of the Sevillian table olives, because as his manager, Francisco Javier, points out, “we have to bet on what is ours, the way is to value our best products and our way of making them, as well as the social economy that involves the management of the traditional olive grove of varieties harvested by hand, such as chamomile and gordal, the dressing industry that makes them and the commercial packaging companies that bet on them ”.

It is the Carrefour chain, as one of the large distributors, which has taken the first step in betting on local products with the maximum guarantees, such as Manzanilla and Gordal Olives from Seville, Protected Geographical Indication, from the Regulatory Council we are delighted to This first great step in the commercialization of our olives, since we are convinced that the Andalusian rural environment and the traditional Sevillian olive grove, have a central role due to their ability to generate employment and wealth, and form part of the identity and history of all those who we inhabit it.

In February of this year, the term was opened for new registrations of those interested in being part of this, already a large family, of olive growers, operators and industrialists in the Sevillian table olive sector, who are fighting for a differentiation of the Manzanilla and Gordal varieties, with a guarantee of origin, quality, prestige and reputation, of internationally valued products.

During this period, many are interested in knowing and wanting to defend their olives in this globalized market, where apparently, quality is at odds with price, where the traditional olive groves of our land see their profitability diminished compared to products from other countries. that compete with their low prices without ensuring sustainable agricultural practices, social responsibility in their farms or industries, quality of their fruits, socio-economic development of their territories, where the use of phytosanitary products or doses prohibited in the Union are allowed European, where workers' wages are low etc….

It is in this sense when the Sevillian table olive sector is planted and decides to bet on making known the benefits of its Manzanillas and Gordales de Sevilla, fighting together for the quality of its olives.

As of today, this Regulatory Council already has more than 3,500 olive growers, 11 cooperatives, 11 processing industries, 15 purchasing centers, 8 registered packaging companies and two new applicant packaging processing industries with recognized prestige in the sector, such as Agromairena and Guadalquivir Olives. , as well as another important number of new olive groves, waiting to be accepted their applications for registration, in the next plenary session to be held in the third week of July. In this plenary session, new certifications will also be proposed for already registered industries and packaging companies, which will be able to start marketing their olives with the Protected Geographical Indications labels.

We remind you that the registration period for marketing bottling plants is still open, and you can request registration with this Regulatory Council throughout the year.
In the Regulatory Council, we are convinced that the Andalusian rural environment is, and must continue to be, a prosperous and attractive place for those of us who live in it. And because the traditional Sevillian olive grove has a central role due to its ability to generate employment and wealth, and to be part of the identity and history of all of us who inhabit it.
